Hannah's Hydroponics
The Yancey House Restaurant is pleased to feature lettuces from Hannah's Hydroponics in Chatham, Virginia. LeRoy and Joyce Beimel provide the ideal nutritional environment for optimal growth, quality, and taste. The result is twenty-seven varieties of delicious lettuce.
Buddy and Joyce came from New Orleans in 1990, after working as a master automotive technician for Volkswagen and Kmart management. They started a construction business which they still operate. They built the greenhouse in 2007 and started raising hydroponic lettuce in October of 2008. The business has grown faster than they could have ever anticipated.

Lettuce grown hydroponically
are generally healthier than plants grown in soil, since they receive
a near perfectly balanced diet. They rarely come in contact with soil
borne pests and diseases, which is the reason for all the recalls of lettuce
in the past few years. |
Improved and more consistent quality, and the elimination of herbicides and pesticides are the major advantages of hydroponic growing methods of commercial food production. By greatly reducing the use of agrichemicals, hydroponics is environmentally friendly and results in safe vegetable crops that are safer, cleaner, and more nutritious.
