We’ve all read the Horse Whisperer written by Nicholas Sparks (1998) and most of us have viewed an episode of Dog Whisperer (with renowned dog behavior expert Cesar Millan) on television. But you might not be familiar with the Log Whisperer, Kevin Thomas, who lives here in North Carolina.

We at the Yancey House were pleased when Jim Long brought Kevin by to take a look at our tobacco barn, reported to be the largest in North Carolina. Jim knew that our desire to preserve Caswell's historical landmarks and Kevin's passion in restoration and building old log homes were a perfect match.

For 26 years, Kevin custom builds authentic log homes that fits with the person he is building for. He also restores log homes and tobacco barns of historic and creative design.

Kevin and his crew build 3-4 log homes per year while restoring barns at the same time. He purchases tobacco barns, takes them apart log by log, then treats the wood. He uses these logs to build homes. Every part of this is time consuming because not only do have to find barns you can use but you have to find onrs that match.
